Thinking Blocks

Thinking BlocksThinking Blocks was developed by classroom teachers to help students learn how to visualize and solve challenging word problems. Using brightly colored blocks, students model the relationships within math word problems while a virtual tutor leads students through the specific problem solving steps. Modeling word problems encourages students to look beyond the surface to discover the concepts and relationships that are at the core of every math problem.

Based on the math teaching techniques used in Singapore, ThinkingBlocks employs a bar model (see screenshot) that helps students “see” the problem. For more infomation on how to use this web site with students, read the “Why” page.

If you would like me to use this with students during computer lab time, let me know.
